How Cozy Cottage Began..
Years ago, as a young girl, I remember walking a mile each way down a quiet country road to visit my special friend Louise every chance I was allowed to go. She was what many considered an eccentric old lady, who lived alone with her friendly dachshund, Charlie and a few somewhat tamed barn cats who came around for their daily meals. I still remember those push-up orange ice cream treats in the summertime, and meandering conversations about life lessons, dreams, and neighborhood gossip.
Ever since that time, I have enjoyed the company of many special friends decades older than I, and now, as I grow ever closer to that label of 'eccentric old lady' myself, I see life from a different perspective. I have worked in senior care, I have watched friends tackle dementia, financial stress and battle physical limitations, all the while maintaining the strong desire to remain in their homes for as long as possible. I've gone through the sudden passing of my father, which necessitated an unexpected and immediate change of strategy for the care of my mother, who suffered from Alzheimer's disease.
While in the ideal world, we want to remain independent and in our own homes for the duration of our lives, often the reality turns out far differently. The majority of seniors forced to leave their home involuntarily due to sudden illness or falls find that they and their families are suddenly immersed in an unfamiliar and demanding sea of endless difficult decisions, paperwork and emotional conversations.
And that is where I realized that my personal experiences, combined with a professional background in nutrition/meal planning, cooking, transportation, caregiving, healthcare, community service and now real estate could all be utilized to both empower people stay in their homes as long as possible and also help ease the stress of transition when or if the time comes when other living options are required.
An additional but essential part of this vision is to bring together tradespeople and small businesses in the community to further support and protect our senior population while bringing the concepts of Home, Heart and Care to each person they serve.
